“Shame on them” SAG president blasts Hollywood studios in support of writers’ strike

Screen Actors Guild (SAG) President Fran Drescher blasted film Hollywood studios during her speech in support of the current writers’ strike.

Drescher more popularly known for her role as Fran Fine in the hit 1990’s sitcom- “The Nanny” did not mince her words as she chided the film and TV studios for their treatment of the writers during an impassioned speech in Los Angeles on Thursday.

Drescher along with several SAG union members gathered outside the headquarters of top movie and production houses with signs as a show of solidarity by actors for the current protest action, amid mounting pressure on Hollywood studios to restructure their current arrangements writers.

Several major stars such as Matt Damon and Margot Robbie and Jamie Lee Curtis have publicly expressed their support for the current protests in recent times.

Robbie, who is currently promoting her upcoming film Barbie, told Sky News at the movie’s London premiere on July 12 that she stands with the union. “Absolutely, I very much am in support of all the unions and I am a part of SAG, so I absolutely would stand by that,” she said

“What we would be striking for if we strike is incredibly important, we gotta protect the people. “Its [the current contract] is unacceptable and we gotta figure out soothing that is fair,” the Bourne Ultimatum actor said while speaking to Entertainment Tonight (ET) Canada on Wednesday.

On Thursday, July 13, the union, which represents over 160,000 TV and film stars confirmed it would be striking alongside the Writer’s Guild of America after meetings with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) failed to result in a new contract.
