Several detainees from the Ocho Rios lock-up were transferred earlier today following an intense standoff with the police on Wednesday.

It is understood that the officers were conducting a cell search when some of the detainees resisted and commenced a brawl.

Shortly after reinforcements were called in from the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) to quell the dispute. Additionally, an inmate was also transported to hospital where he was treated.

This brawl comes days after five inmates were seen on video brutally beating another inmate while hurdling homosexual-oriented slurs at the victim.

It is understood that the cause of the said brawl was an argument that transpired between the victim and the other accused on Saturday, January 14. The nature of the argument however has not yet been ascertained.

All 5 men have since been charged and the victim was released from hospital and back in custody.
