Sergio Ramos is set to join Lionel Messi in the departure lounge for Ligue 1 Champions Paris Saint Germaine (PSG) after deciding to leave the club in the summer.

Ramos who joined PSG in 2021 has decided against renewing his contract with the Ligue 1 champions and will leave as a free agent this summer.

The defender shared his decision via Twitter on Friday.

“Tomorrow I will say goodbye to another stage of my life, goodbye to PSG. I don’t know in how many places one can feel at home, but without a doubt, PSG and the fans and Paris were one of them for me”, Sergio said in a statement.

The defender also thanked the club for his time in France and expressed optimism about his “new challenges.”

“Thank you for two special years in which I was able play in every tournament and give my all. I will face new challenges, I will wear other colours, but first, and for the last time: Allez Paris!”, the statement added.

Ramos has given no indication as to which club or league he will play next or if he will retire from football overall.

The former Spain international joins Messi as the second major name to exit the French champion’s doors this summer.

Messi’s departure was confirmed in April following his suspension by the club after an unsanctioned trip to Saudi Arabia of where he’s a tourism ambassador

His suspension also came amidst a lucrative offer by Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal to lure the Argentine World Cup winner to the club.
