The football world was given a treat by two of its greatest, as perennial rivals Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both set records during their respective international fixtures on Tuesday night.

On a night where crucial World Cup Qualification spots were at stake, the results played secondary information to the potential milestones of two titans and they didn’t dispaoint.

Cristiano Ronaldo kicked things off literally after becoming the highest scorer in Cup Qualifiers history, moving it to 41 goals, breaking Carlos Ruiz’s record of 39, following his brace in Portugal’s 2-2 draw against Hungary in European qualification.

CR7 scored in minute 22 and the first half of extra time to lead Portugal’s comeback move before relinquishing the lead and potential win courtesy of a late Domonic Szoboszlai goal to rescue a point for Hungary.

Ronlado now move his International tally to 143 goals and 948 goals.

For Messi, on a rare occasion where his name was on the scoresheet, he left his mark by creating goals after becoming the first player to reach 60 assists in international football following a double in Argentina’s 6-0 thrashing of Puerto Rico.

His two assists came in the 23rd and 84th, setting up Gonzalo Monteil and Lurata Martinez for Argentina’s second and 6th goals as he eclipsed Neymar Jr’s record, adding another feather to his already stacked trove of achievements.
