Legendary dancehall selector and producer Garfield Mckoy better known as Ricky Trooper will be honoured with a Lifetime Award at the Essence of Reggae Music Festival at the Police Officers Club in Kingston on Saturday.
The Frankie Music produced festival decided to honour Trooper because of his longstanding and invaluable contributions to the music industry both locally and internationally.
Trooper is highly respected and from the sound system days was known as Ricky the “Serial Killer” Trooper- because of his unique skill to demolish his opponents musically.
In his over forty years career, he has always been the most revered and the most decorated sound system selector.
Fun Fact: Ricky Trooper’s journey in dancehall & reggae began when has was eight years old when he moved to Spanish Town, from St. Mary where the owner of Coptic Hi Power introduced him to his first sound system.
It was no turning back but he officially started his deejaying career through the 80s & 90s at the mighty Kilamanjaro where he worked alongside Pap San, Ninja Man, Lecturer, and Bunny General.
Those are just a few of the reasons Frankie Music and his team selected Trooper saying he is a “Reggae and Dancehall true ambassador.”
Frankie says it is time Jamaica recognise and appreciate its musical giants
