The “Battle of the sexes” may have drifted into an interesting area when it comes to gender-based dominance, according to a recent study, which declared that women’s farts are more potent in odour than those of their male counterparts.

According to reports on a peer-reviewed research, the findings assert a myth-busting result that while the frequency and decibel level of gastric releases are higher among men, the pungent potency wanes in comparison to females in an ironic twist in expected results.

“Men produced more volume, but women’s gas contained a significantly higher concentration of hydrogen sulfide—the sulfur compound behind the classic “rotten egg” smell, reports from US publication Vice noted, adding that a consensus among researchers consistently rated women’s farts as more intense, despite the reduced frequency.

According to Studies in gastroenterology, based on findings by noted gastroenterologist Dr Michael Levitt posited that human flatulence averages about 5- 23 times daily.

It may not necessarily be the dominant statistics that many females would likely claim over the male counterpart, despite the science tipping the scales in their favour for this round.
