European football champion Real Madrid came out on top of an eight-goal thriller in the final of the Club World on Saturday, after beating Saudi Arabian club Al Halil 5-3 to lift the trophy for a record fifth time in Rabat, Morocco.
Goals from strike pair- Vinicius Jr and Captain Karim Benzema, as well as influential midfielder Federico Valverde, gave the Spanish La Liga juggernauts the historic win in their return to the finals after two years.
Both Vinicius Jr and Valverde had two goals each in the game.
Vini, scored the first and fifth goals in the 13th and 69th minutes while Valverde bagged his brace in the 18th and 58th minutes for Madrid’s second and third goals.
Reigning Ballon d’Or winner Benzema netted Real’s fourth in minute 54 to solidify their dominance.
Luciano Vietto’s double in the 63rd and 79th minutes added some drama to the game following Moussa Marega’s opener for Al Hilal in the 26th minute.
Excitement is all that it would create as Real, who had already lifted the Champions League trophy for a record 14th time last season held on to add the see out the remainder of the game to hoist the championship.
This win is a confidence boost to Carlo Ancelotti’s men ahead of the resumption of the league next week.
Their next game in the tournament will be against rival Liverpool in a rematch of last season’s final on February 21.
