A pregnant 21-year-old Chicago woman was reportedly shot and killed after attempting to rob a passenger in a vehicle on Monday in Belmont Graging, Chicago.

According to reports, the woman identified as Genesis Escobar entered a vehicle at approximately 1 pm in the 5200 block of West Montana street, where she announced the robbery attempt Police say.

CBS Chicago reports that during the exchange of words, gunfire was opened with Escobar being hit in the shoulder, back, and hand.

It’s understood that she was later taken to the Illinois Advocate Masonic Medical Centre where she was subsequently pronounced dead.

News of the tragedy was made more harrowing after her pregnancy was revealed by a woman who claimed to be a friend who spoke to local media.

“my heart is broken in pieces,” says Iris Alvarez. “She was seven months pregnant,” Miss Alvarez explained while being interviewed.

“My heart is broken in pieces,” said Iris Alvarez. “She was also seven months pregnant with a baby girl.”

Iris Alvarez said Escobar came to visit Alvarez’s daughter around 1 p.m.

She [Escobar] texted my daughter and told my daughter; “Please help me! I’m in trouble!'” Alvarez recalls said. “But my daughter was sleeping.”

She claims that she and her daughter were both awoken by four gunshots, and was left stunned by their discovery.

“They looked out the window and seen that the vehicle – someone opened the driver door, walked around the vehicle, pulled the body out, and drove off,” Alvarez shared to local media.

Alvarez added that she witnessed persons pulling a body outside of the car before throwing cash on top of it and leaving.

It’s further understood that Alvarez’s daughter rushed downstairs and discovered her best friend gasping for air.

“When we got to the hospital, unfortunately, the baby was not able to be saved – and she passed away as well,” Alvarez said.
