Poet Khorii Rhymez has been delivering well-needed doses of wholesome humour online through creative relatability and palatable wordplay. We caught up with this talented wordsmith to learn how he crafts his material.

How did you get into poetry?

While he had a natural talent for the creative composition of words and storytelling from an early age, an intentional pursuit of poetry was stirred by his Aunt, who always encouraged him to share his works, which eventually led to his entrance into the social media space.

What prompted you to put material online?

The talented poet also noted he was further inspired to share his material online after seeing a compelling satirical spoken word content by a poet about his ex-girlfriend. A delivery he felt he was equally capable of executing with the same impact.

Before your project became viral online, were you performing your material for people?

When did you realize it was blowing up?

The Ticthfield High alum referred to the traction he received for his pieces about going to the [US] embassy and his experience taking the bus to town as moments he realized that his content creation was working.

How do you identify the right muse?

Clean, non-taboo, culturally relatable topics drive his inspiration for his material, the Utech Graduate noted.

He also highlighted professions that inspire some of his content, such as teachers, security guards, etc. He indicated that they have commended him on the accuracy of his take on their experiences and the entertaining delivery of scenarios.

What aspects do you feel attract people the most to your content?

The relatability and educational aspects of his content attract people the most, the proud Portland native quipped.

How do you maintain the poetic element in rhyming while staying on theme with the storylines?

Energetic and vibe-filled are some ways he best describes himself. He listed Miss Lou and Itty Ellis among the persons he takes inspiration from in the artistic field.
