Pocket Rocket Foundation awards 11 scholarships to budding student athletes

Sprint legend, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s Pocket Rocket Foundation, which is celebrating its ten year anniversary, has awarded eleven new scholarships to budding student athetes in various disciplines.

The students were awarded during an event which took place at the Negril Suite at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in St. Andrew earlier this week.

The scholarships cover tuition, books, uniforms, lunch, and travel expenses throughout the students high school studies.

In addition to the $100,000 academic scholarship, students will also receive $7500 NIKE book bag, Official Pocket Rocket Foundation notebooks & Promise Pin along with $15,000 Book voucher, $10,0000 in GraceKennedy Food Basket, a Samsung Galaxy A8 Digicel Tablet and three thousand dollars worth of free credit.

Emerging track and field athletes, Tshani Armstrong from St. Catherine High, Natrece East from Wolmer’s and Tyrone Lawson from Jamaica College were among this year’s Pocket Rocket Scholarship recipients. Lysandra Taylor from Papine High School, who plays Netball, Karissa Kelly from Wolmer’s High who does swimming and young track athlete, Nickayla Russell from Holmwood Technical, also copped scholarships.

The list of 2023 Pocket Rocket Scholarship recepients also includes – Cricketer Kenrick McFarlane from Excelsior High, Jahiem Jackson of Knox College who plays Volleyball, Joel Lamm of Wolmer’s Boys who plays Table Tennis and Chess, Jordayne Grant, also of Wolmer’s, who plays Hockey and Streme Cha of Campion College who’s an emerging footballer.
