Reigning Olympic 110m hurdles Champion Hansel Parchment led a Jamaica 1-2 finish in the heats of the event to advance to the semi-finals at the Commonwealth Games at on Tuesday.
Parchment, who was racing for the first time since his injury, just before the finals of the World Championships in Oregon, was in cruise control, as he brushed off that disappointment to canter to an easy win in 13.33 seconds.
Orlando Bennet also had a relatively easy race clocking 13.40 second to finish runner up to Parchment as the top two finishers in heat 1.
Rasheed Broadbell completed the Jamaica dominance in the event after taking heat 2 in a season’s best of 13.16 seconds to be fastest in qualifying. There is a strong possibility of a Jamaican sweep in the event with the country entering Thursday’s finals with three of the four fastest qualifying times.
There was also success in the longer distance of the event as World Championship finalist Jaheel Hyde, advanced to the finals of the 400m hurdles after winning his heat with the fastest qualifying of 49.60 seconds. That final is set to take place on Saturday.
Jamaica will also have vested interest in the men’s long jump final, as Shawn D Thompson leapt a distance of 7.85m to secure fourth overall best jump to book his place in that final.
The grand showdown is set to take place on Thursday.
