Jamaican music star OMI officially received his billion-stream Spotify plaque for the 2014 smash remix of 2012 hit “Cheerleader”.

The singer, known for his composed excitement and chilled persona, was beaming with excitement as moment with his fans, including the unboxing sequence leading up to the plaque moment.

The track was released in 2012 to a solid reception locally, before a popular Felix Jaehn remix two years later catapulted the song into a global smash and chart success in 2015 to become eventual classic, where it remains a staple at major events and festivals’ playlists.

While the recognition officially shows a tangible welcome of OMI to the Billion streams club, the single track itself has doubled those numbers, racking up over two billion streams and counting on the platform alone. A testament of the multi-genre and generational appeal and growing discovery by newer audiences.

Apart from Spotify, the single has also crossed the 10-digit mark on YouTube with 1.4 billion views, to complement 23 million by the original version.
