NBA superstar Donovan Mitchell dropped a game-high 40 points for the Cleveland Cavaliers to inspire a dramatic overtime comeback victory over 2022 finalist Boston Celtics 118-114 at Rocket Mortgage Field House, Cleveland on Monday.

Mitchell’s 40-point effort was the climax of the massive comeback by the Cavs who managed to force overtime despite trialing the first three-quarters of the game.

After going down 33-26 in the first quarter, they reduced the deficit in the second 35-30 before making the third a tight encounter trailing 24-22.

The fixture itself was a case of the prey becoming the predator, as the Cavs successfully chased and overhauled Boston in the remaining session.

Following a dominant fourth quarter 31-17 to tie the game, they outscored the Celtics 9-5 in overtime to take the win.

Despite a team-high 32 points and 19 rebounds by Jaylen Brown, it was not enough to prevent Boston from going down to the third consecutive loss.

The loss sees them fall to second in the standings on 45 wins, one behind new leaders Milwaukee Bucks who earned their 46th on Sunday.

Cleveland now moves up to fourth with their 41st victory of the season.
