Michael Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson has been confirmed to play his legendary uncle in his upcoming biopic King of Pop.
Jaafar’s selection for the role of Michael was confirmed on Monday by the film’s director Director Antoine Fuqua — who previously directed iconic films like “Training Day” and “Tears of the Sun”.
Fuqua posted an image of the young Jackson in rehearsal with the caption: “Proud to announce @jaafarjackson as Michael — the motion picture event that explores the journey of the man who became the King of Pop. Coming soon.”

Jaafar also shared the news via his Twitter: “I’m humbled and honored to bring my Uncle Michael’s story to life.”
The 26-year-old is the son of Michael’s older brother Jermaine Jackson- a former of the Jackson five, of which Michael was the lead.
The film’s producer Graham King was quick to dismiss the notion of nepotism playing a factor in Jaafar’s selection.
He shared that before his election, a worldwide search was conducted to audition possible candidates, however, Jaafar best embodied what they were seeking for the character.
“I met Jaafar over two years ago and was blown away by the way he organically personifies the spirit and personality of Michael” Graham King said. “It was something so powerful that even after conducting a worldwide search, it was clear that he is the only person to take on this role.”
Michael Jackson’s estate also gave its approval of Jaafar’s planned portal of his Iconic kinfolk.
Michael’s mother-Katherine Jackson is reported as saying: “Jaafar embodies my son. It’s so wonderful to see him carry on the Jackson legacy of entertainers and performers,” said the singer’s mother, Katherine Jackson.
A date release date is yet to be announced.
