Lionel Messi is reportedly heading to the US for his next football destination following news of his commitment to signing with David Beckham’s Major League Soccer (MLS) team Inter Miami.
It’s understood that Messi’s decision was made on Monday amidst high-profile offers from European and Middle Eastern interests.
Noted football Journalist Fabrizio Romano also reports that Messi has chosen the MLS team over an attempted fairy tale return to Camp Nou with Barcelona or the Saudi Pro League team, Al Lithiad.
Despite a whopping €400m proposal to play in the middle east, and Barca seemingly exhausting every feasible financial avenue to put together a La Liga-approved bid to secure his return, the MLS club remained heavily linked to the World Cup winner.
Messi who departed Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint Germaine (PSG) following a tumultuous two years in France, is reported to have delayed his decision pending a Barca proposal.
The six-time Ballon d O’r winner is set to share details on the reports in the coming hours.
Pending the official announcement, the Athletic reports that MLS crafted a creative pitch to sign a football star, which includes a profit-sharing agreement with Apple TV and sportswear giant Adidas.
It’s understood that the deal will see Messi benefit from revenue generated by new subscribers to MLS Season Pass on Apple TV+, along with help from sponsor Adidas whom he has a lifetime contract.
The German sportswear manufacturer has partnered with MLS since the league’s inception in 1996.
