Fans of French Ligue 1 Champions Paris Saint Germaine (PSG), were treated to an all-star show as Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe, were all active on the scoresheet in the 7-2 thrashing of Maccabi Haifa in Tuesday’s Champions league fixture.
It was a game that PSG expected to win and they did not disappoint as the Parisians showed the gulf in class between the two teams.
Both Messi and Mbappe netted a brace in their Ligue 1 champion’s demolition.
The in-form Messi opened his and PSG’s account in the 19th minute courtesy of a Mbappe assist before the two linked up in minute 44 for the team’s third goal.
It was the reverse for the Frenchman, as, Messi played provider for Mbape’s opening goal in minute 32, with Hakimi setting his second in the 64th minute, which was PSG’s third and fifth goal respectively.
Brazilian Neymar was not to be left out on the day, after netting their third of half in the 35th minute before the team forced Maccabi player Shon Goldberg into an own goal in the 64th while Carlos Soler completed the thrashing with an 84th-minute strike of his own.
Abdoulaye Seck’s Valliant brace in the 30th and 50th minutes served only as a consolation to already eliminated Maccabi who remains at the foot of the table.
The victory ensured PSG secured a spot in the round of 16, as they move ahead of Benfica on goal difference with both on 11 points. Their final group game will come against eliminated Juventus on November 3.
