Lionel Messi kicked off his Inter Miami career in spectacular fashion after his stoppage time free-kick secured a pulsating 2-1 win over Mexican team Cruz Azul in their league Cup game at the DRV PNK Stadium on Friday.

Messi’s free-kick came on the stroke of the 94th minute as the Argentina Captain delivered a scintillating curler over the wall and into the top right corner of the Cruz Azul goal to seal an almost poetic ending to the game.

In arguably the biggest debut in US soccer history, a throng of celebrities including fellow sports stars LeBron James and Serena Williams were among the capacity crowd to witness the Argentina Captain’s first moments as an MLS player.
