Paris Saint Germaine (PSG) star Kylian Mbappe looks set to leave in the summer after opting not to activate his contract extension clause in his current deal with the Ligue 1 champs.
According to reports the France international who will be entering the final season of his two-year deal with the Parsians has informed PSG of his intention not to trigger the player-side option which would extend his contract due to expire in 2024 to 2025.
The move comes only a year after PSG fended off a similar crisis with a last-ditch super offer to steer a Real Madrid-bound Mbappe back to the club’s direction with a two-year deal; filled with perks and said to be worth more than 200 million.
It’s understood that club officials are shocked by the decision as they again contemplate losing their biggest star, which will be another blow to the club following the departure of Lionel Messi, and the seemingly expected exit of Neymar Jr.
PSG have no intention of losing their top marksman, however, would at the very least, look to cash out than let him go for free which could result in Mbappe playing in a new league next season.
Any sale for the World Cup winner is expected to exceed $200 million and could very well surpass the $220 million world record fee set by PSG in their 2017 acquisition.
Cash-rich Real Madrid will no doubt be the front runners for the 24-year-old’s signature as they seek a suitable replacement for former captain Karim Benzema who joined Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal in an Ultra lucrative move last week.
Neither PSG nor Mbappe have commented publicly on the developments thus far
