English Premier League Champions Manchester City have started to populate their trophy cabinet this season following a dramatic 7-6 penalty win over rivals Manchester United to lift the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

It took all of 13 penalties to decide the winner after both teams remained deadlocked 1-1 at full-time following late goals from Man City’s Bernardo Silva and United’s Alejandro Garancho.

Garnacho showed lovely vision and skill as he dribbled alongside the right flank, cutting inside midfield toward the 18-yard box before he cannoned a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner giving United an 83rd-minute lead.

The Champaign was however put back in storage as Silver, who came on as an 81st-minute substitute restored parity for City in minute 87 to make it 1-1 where it remained after full-time.

Heading into penalties both teams showed composure with perfect kicks from six attempts, however, United flinched first after Jonny Evans launched his effort over the crossbar allowing Manuel Akanji to clinch City’s win.

The win also makes it the 18th trophy for Manchester City under Manager Pep Guardiola since taking the reins at the club in 2016.
