Manchester City’s English Premier League title defense was officially confirmed on Saturday following Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forrest at The City Ground.

Second-place Arsenal, who needed a win to at the very least, delay those celebrations, were put out of their misery following the crucial loss.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s 19th-minute strike proved to be the deciding factor in the continuation of any possible title challenge with a game to play.

The result means the maximum points possible for Arsenal is 84 points, which would be a point shy of Man City’s current tally of 85, with three games to play. Effectively ending their title chase.

The Cityzens who lead the standings by four points will kick off the first of their final three games as Champions on Sunday when they face Chelsea in what is expected to be an exciting match-up at the Etihad Stadium.

Saturday’s result also means Manchester City has now won five titles in the last six years.
