Liverpool, Arsenal fixtures headline EPL return

Following an exciting six weeks of World Cup action in Qatar, the English Premier League will resume with a slew of games on December 26, with Liverpool and Arsenal fixtures set to headline the Boxing Day resumption.

 Sixth-placed Liverpool will who go into the with a series of wins will be looking to continue that streak when they face Aston Villa at Villa Park on Monday.

The Reds who were ousted from the EFL Cup by rivals Manchester City 3-2 on Thursday will be eager to rebound against 12 placed Villa as they seek to close the gap on the top four teams.

The fixture will also be the first time Villa will face Liverpool under a new manager Unai Emery. They’ve won two of their last three games since he officially took charge in November.

Premier League leaders Arsenal who has been the standout team thus far with a table-topping 37 points from 14 games, will be aiming to add to that lead when they face 16th-place Westham.

The Gunners who have lost just once in 14 games have looked dangerously confident all season, however, that confidence be will be tested as they start life without the striker Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian who has been an influential part of the team’s performance will be sidelined for a least two months following surgery on his knee after sustaining the injury at the World Cup.

Victory will see them extend their lead to eight points as second-place City remain idle until Wednesday.

Other notable Boxing Day fixtures will see fourth-placed Tottenham hotspurs take on Brantford FC, while this season’s surprise package Newcastle will seek to move into the second spot when they tackle Leicester City.
