Los Angeles Lakers star guard LeBron James, is set to become the highest career earning player in NBA history, after agreeing to a two-year contract extension with the franchise which said to be worth a whopping US $97.1 million.

The deal which was announced on Wednesday, is estimated to bring James’ career earning above US $532 million dollars.

According to reports, James who turns 38 in December, also has a player option for the 2024-25 season, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul explained to noted sports media house ESPN on Wednesday.

James is ineligible for a no-trade clause because he agreed on an extension — not a new deal. With his new contract’s starting salary of US $46.7 million, the 15% trade kicker as part of his deal along with his status in the league could the see guard remain a Laker for as long as he chooses.

James had been entering the final season of his contract (worth $44.5 million) and now joins All-Star Anthony Davis with the ability to negotiate new deals with the Lakers or become free agents in two seasons as per deadline.

Beyond the obvious lucrative gains derived from the extension, the possibility of James’ dream of playing in the league with at least one of his sons is now very much active.

James’ 17-year-old, Bronny Jr has been touted as one of the next up for the league and could go to the NBA draft in the 2024 cycle. A feat which would be historic in of it self as the first father and son active NBA players.
