Entertainer Laden will serve four years in prison for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

He was sentenced to five and a half years, but will only serve four after receiving 18 months for the illegal possession of ammunition charge, and four years for the illegal possession of firearm charge.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

The sentencing took place this afternoon in the St Elizabeth Circuit Court in Black River.

The artiste, 33, and two others, including a 16-year-old, were held on October 28 after the black Mercedes Benz they were travelling in was signaled to stop by law enforcers in Cheapside, St Elizabeth.

Laden, who it is alleged was driving the vehicle, disobeyed the police’s order and sped off. A chase ensued.

It is alleged that during the chase, an object was observed being thrown from the sunroof of the vehicle. When the police caught up with the vehicle, the occupants were arrested and taken back to the site where the object was witnessed being thrown from the car.

It is there that a firearm was discovered.
