Jamaica could add lacrosse to its list of ‘non-athletics’ representation at the Olympics after the sport gained approval from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to be added to the disciplines at the 2028 games in Los Angeles.
Lacrosse was among five “new” sports—baseball/softball, cricket, flag football, and squash—recommended by the LA28 organising committee and approved by the IOC on Monday.
Jamaica Lacrosse also shared the news via its Instagram page on Monday.

The approval is not only seen as a win for lacrosse but also for Jamaica, which has proven itself to be a rising force in the sport internationally.
The JamLax team, which is the first Caribbean team to qualify for the World Championships across all levels, again had the world on watch this year following their historic quarter-final appearance to finish in the top 8 in San Diego.
Given Jamiaca’s increasing global competitiveness, they are expected to be strong contenders for Olympic qualification for the Los Angeles-hosted games.
Should Jamaica qualify, it will follow aquatics, equestrian, and cycling as sports outside of athletics, where Jamaica has been represented at the Olympics.
