Reggae trio Kuzikk; Kamau Imhotep, Krysi Webb, and Kool Johnny Kool on Wednesday celebrated the release of their debut EP titled ‘Hot Wata’.
The Trio pulled out a notable-sized audience of specially invited members of the media, influencers, entertainers, and industry professionals.
The ‘Hot Wata’ EP produced by “Computer Paul”, features a blend of roots reggae, ska, dancehall, and hip hop.
According to the group, the title track, ‘Hot Wata’, was written with the intention to attract dancehall fans, locally and internationally.
However, the six-track project was inspired and written during the COVID pandemic.
Altogether, the EP is a unique blend of different sounds; showcasing Jamaican culture and aiming to appeal to different markets.
A good example is the song ‘Just Wanna Move’ which appeals to listeners in North America. The song has a crossover vibe with pop elements as opposed to ‘Reggae Town’, which is geared towards reggae music lovers in the United Kingdom or other countries across Europe.
It was time to treat the ears and eyes of the guests and so, Kuzikk came in hot following an introduction by event MC DJ Roddy G of The Bridge99 FM.
Kuzikk hit the stage showing their versatility, performing their single ‘Stand for the Culture’, and a rendition of ‘Money Girl’, originally recorded by the popular 1970s roots-reggae group Culture, which had many persons anxious for more.
Further to their performance, the group showed just why they are good and certainly a new mood for reggae music, they were backed by Desi Jones and the Skool band.
The launch party, fuelled by their music was held at Footprints Café Restaurant and Lounge in New Kingston.
The event was organised by Truckback Records, founded by Steve Locke in collaboration with Paul ‘Computer Paul’ Henton of Boot Camp Records.
The EP ‘Hot Wata’ is being distributed by Zojak World Wide and was officially released across all major digital platforms on Friday, August 11.
