World U-20 Triple Jump record holder Jaydon Hibbert will be seeking to deliver Jamaica’s first gold at the 2023 World Championships in the event’s final on Monday.
Hibbert, 18, is favoured to claim his first senior world title after comfortably qualifying for the final round with a massive 17.70m during Saturday’s preliminaries.
The precocious teen who is added to the ‘favourites tag’ after being the only competitor to meet the qualifying distance of 17.14m as the other finalists advanced by default.
Hibbert is currently the world leader in the event with a U-20 record of 17.81m and will be looking to cap off a sensational season with a podium finish in his first senior World Championship.
The Arkansas University star, who is the first Jamaican to qualify for the final in 28 years, will also be seeking to create history as the country’s first champion in the event.
