Jamaica’s Christopher Taylor and Demish Gaye are through to the men’s 400m semi-finals following contrasting performances in their respective heats, while Nathon Allen missed out at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games now underway in Japan.

Gaye, who was first up, running from lane three in heat one, went at a decent pace down the backstretch and straightened up in sixth before producing a late burst to finish fourth in 45.49s.

Though missing out on one of the three automatic qualifying spots, Gaye progressed as one of the six fastest non-automatic qualifiers.

Taylor, running from lane seven in heat three also went hard in the early stages and later succumbed to the sweltering heat inside the stadium, but stayed on well to finish third in 45.20s.

Meanwhile, Allen, running out of lane five in heat five was up with the leaders early in a crippling pace, but had nothing left for the final 150m and had to settle for fourth in 46.12s which was not good enough to make the cut.
