Jamaican filmmaker Adjani Salmon cops prestigious BAFTA award

Jamaican film director Adjani Solomon copped the Emerging Talent award in the category of Fiction, from the Prestigious British Academy Television Craft Awards (BAFTA) on Sunday.

Salmon who resides in England, won for his self-produced satiric drama ‘Dreaming Whilst Black’ series pilot.

A very ecstatic Salmon expressed thanks for the support and recognition for the work in very humor filled acceptance speech which could easily be noted as one of the more memorable of the evening.

Not only for his words but for his attire as he dawned a Jamaican flag inspired look for occasion.

He wore a green Jekuen Jacket, paired with a black Jean Pearse pants, that was complimented by Gold chains and rings to tie the look together.

Ensuring that the Jamaican presence was fully experienced to add a taste of ‘color’  to the awards.

The series which is also a Semi-autobiographical feature has garnered critical acclaim over the years since its 2018 premier on Youtube. Including winning the Royal Television Society’s 2022 Breakthrough Award.

The Dreaming whilst black series pilot has been picked up by the BBC recently and already as continued to receive rave reviews for the creative portrayal of the various socio-economic topic such as race and gender and how they apply in the film industry.

His acting has also been a source of praise along with his writing style.

In 2021, Adjani filmed a lead role (alongside fellow guest-star, Aisling Bea, and the Doctor) in the DOCTOR WHO festive special.

The special which was released on New Year’s Day received effusive praise from critics and audiences alike

 British publication The Telegraph called it – “The best episode in years,” and The Independent wrote that the special was the series, “Back at its best,” whilst also highlighting Adjani’s performance as particularly charismatic.

The Metro and Den of Geek also raved about Adjani’s performance with each respectively writing – “Aisling and Adjani stunned in their guest roles,” also stating that, “It’s Aisling Bea and Adjani Salmon that steal the show this week with two very flawed, vulnerable and human performances.”

With many other pieces of work also set to be in the works both in acting and directing as Adjani slowly building his status as the next major dynamic creative in the British film industry.
