International Dancehall star Shaggy shared that some of his biggest hits that also became signature catchphrases were created by him “moaning” the melodies.

“Mr Boombastic“ talked about the origin of the success and notoriety of the songs via an excerpt from a recent interview posted to his social media on Thursday.

“Mr Boombastic, Mr Lover Lover,” and “It Wasn’t Me” are phrases that have become pop culture references heavily due to the influence of the Jamaican hitmaker.

In a previous clip released by Shaggy, he also shared a similarly unconventional story about his signature voice, noting that the tone was created from mocking his drill sergeant during his time in the US Marines.
