Instagram users are now able to turn off “read receipts” for direct messages (DM) after the social media platform officially introduced the feature on Wednesday.

The social media platform also announced the feature via its Instagram stories.

The post showed a quick direction on enabling the on or off option for the feature.

The feature comes three months after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, announced the testing via their Instagram broadcast channels in November.

Mosseri reiterated the news in his post: “We heard your feedback and have started testing a new feature that lets you turn read receipts off in your DMs. Soon, people will be able to choose when to let others see when they’ve read their messages.”
