The annual Sterling Gospel Music Awards (SGMA) showcase, aims for perfection as they mark a significant milestone on October 7.

The awards will celebrate its 7th anniversary, which the number 7 is God’s perfect number.

This number symbolizes completeness in the Bible, reflecting SGMA’s unwavering commitment to serving as a standard of excellence in Jamaica’s entertainment industry.

Sterling is seen as Jamaica’s national and only award for the gospel community, which was created to acknowledge and salute the work of singers, players of instruments, speakers, hosts, and so on – keeping them motivated to do more for the Kingdom of GOD.

The show, dubbed the ‘Caribbean’s premier awards ceremony for the gospel community”, continues to support creativity and reward exceptional contributions to the gospel music industry in Jamaica.

After 7 years of “dirt” thrown and struggles to keep this award, founder and organiser of the event, Basillia Barnaby-Cuff at the launch Thursday night at the R Hotel told SLEEK how the journey has been.

She expressed that the Sterling Awards came from a passion that drives her pursuit of ensuring that excellence encapsulates every aspect of their execution each year.

The award started at a little church hall in Mandeville in 2017 recording over 1.2 million people tuning into our TV and radio broadcasts at the height of the pandemic, this proves that Sterling continues to showcase unmatched excellence.

Now, as we gear up for 7th year, it is Basillia’s vision to make Sterling a globally recognised brand.

This year, Sterling will be awarding 7 Sound providers and engineers and Basillia explained it all and what to expect on the night of October 7

Meanwhile, the main sponsor, KFC says “There is nothing like Sterling in Jamaica and the Caribbean.”

Representing the company, Brand Manager, Andrei Roper said “The Sterling was and is a perfect fit for KFC,” as it falls in line with the brand’s values.

He also spoke of KFC’s excursion on the day.

This year, over 18 awards will be given with Petra Kaye Linton topping the list of nominees in the 2023 Sterling Gospel Music Awards with 7 nods.

Kevin Downswell then follows with 3 nods.

This year’s event will be held at the Swallowfield Chapel in St Andrew and promises to be a Grammy-line red-carpet affair.
