The Reggae Girlz kicked off their CONCACAF Women’s Championship qualifiers with a massive statement after dismissing Bermuda 4-0 at the National Stadium, Kingston on Thursday night.
It was a routine performance for the home team Reggae Girlz, as they were relatively unbothered by the Bermudians during the game and controlled the tempo in both halves.
It only took 21 minutes for the Jamaicans to break the deadlock through striker Jody Brown, who pounced on a rebounded blocked shot by teammate Trudi Carter.
The two were again involved in the second goal, with Brown this time supplying Carter with an assist to slot home from close range in the 33rd minute, to double the lead.
It was entertaining football for the limited crowd on hand as the Girlz bossed the opening stanza of the game.
The ‘status quo’ was maintained in the second half, as they added two more goals before full-time.
Jamaica’s all-time leading scorer across genders, Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, took full control of proceedings, netting twice in 20 minutes.
Shaw, who had 42 goals for Jamaica, added to her international tally in the 79th minute before depositing her second, and Jamaica’s fourth on the night in the 93rd.
The result sees the Jamaicans go second in Group C behind early leader Dominica Republic, who thrashed Grenada 9-0 on Wednesday.
The Girlz will be in action against the Grenadians on Sunday in Grenada.
