Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Elaine Thompson-Herah progressed to the 200m semi-finals, while Shericka Jackson missed out at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games a short while ago.
After their medal sweep in the 100m, the trio was always expected to safely progress for another possible sweep, but only Fraser-Pryce and Thompson-Herah did so with some amount of ease.
Fraser-Pryce, the 100m silver medallist, running from lane six in heat two literally went on a canter to win in 22.22s in a 0.4mps wind speed.
Thompson-Herah, who is aiming for the double-double, just did enough to advance jogging to third in 22.86s.
Prior to that, Jackson, running out of lane two in heat five, tried to do the same, but poor judgment on her part resulted in her finishing fourth in 23.26s, which was not good enough to secure a non-automatic qualifying time.
