A 25-year-old Florida native who was accused of murdering a random couple and attempting to eat one of the victim’s face in 2016 has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.

The suspect in question Austin Harrouff pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to two charges of first-degree murder.

Though a trial was slated to take place on Monday, the High Court Judge ruled that the accused will face no prison time but will instead be placed in a mental institution until medics deem him stable enough to return to society.

Official reports state that in August 2016, the accused was at a restaurant with his father having dinner when he immediately got up exited the establishment and stripped himself.

After doing so, Harrouff reportedly walked three miles to the home of Michele Mishcon, 53, and John Stevens III, 59.  The reports further stated that the accused gained entry to the couple’s home through the garage and made his way to the living room where he stabbed the couple repeatedly with his pocket knife.

After hearing the commotion, the couple’s neighbor Jeff Fisher made his way to the house to help his friends but was also injured in the ordeal.

The police were later summoned and, on their arrival, discovered Harrouff trying to bite Steven’s face and abdomen.

The accused was subsequently subdued with a taser and taken into custody where he was psychologically evaluated and tested for drugs.

The toxicology screening however showed that the accused was void of drugs however the psychological evaluation proved that he was indeed showing signs of acute paranoia.

In a statement on Monday, Mishcon’s sister Jodi Bruce expressed outrage at the sentencing, chiding that her sister and brother-in-law was viciously murdered while the accused was given a slap on the wrist.

“I didn’t really know you could brutally murder two people, attempt to kill another, and not even have a trial,” she said in a statement to the court
