Fire Brigade launches probe into Bahia Principe explosion

The Jamaica Fire Brigade has launched a probe to ascertain the cause of an explosion at the Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica resort in St Ann yesterday.

The Brigade outlined that the fire which damaged one of the 10 restaurants at the resort, resulted in an estimated loss of US$1 million (152,043,100.00 JMD)

Preliminary reports indicate that the explosion occurred at 4:40 a.m. and has since left one of the resort’s restaurants out of operation.

Other physical damages include blown-out windows and a damaged roof in the restaurant at the facility.

In addition, two of the hotel’s employees were also injured in the ordeal but were later treated at hospital and released.

No other guests however sustained injuries.

Director of Internal Organisation and corporate social responsibility, Fabian Brown, also stated that the explosion has not hindered operations at the resort.
