Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts is reportedly set to become the highest-paid player annually in NFL history after agreeing to a new deal.
According to reports, Hurts, who led the Eagles to the Super Bowl final in February, has agreed to a five-year extension said to be worth US $255m.
This would, by extension, make his annual salary the highest in NFL history. Hurts’ extension includes a no-trade clause a first in Eagles history. His salary-cap numbers for the next four seasons would be: $6.15 million in 2023, $13.56 million in 2024, $21.77 million in 2025 and $31.77 million in 2026.
The 24-year-old who’s in his third season of the league was a leading contender for last season’s Most Valuable Player award. However, he lost to two time Super Bowl-champ, Patrick Mahomes, who led the Kansas City Chiefs to victory over the Eagles at the Super Bowl.
Both Hurts and Mahomes made Super Bowl history in Arizona, as it was the time in NFL that two black Quarterbacks were playing in the same finals.
Hurts set the single-season record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback last season with 18 – including three in the Super Bowl, which was also a record for a quarterback.
His deal is said to include US $179 million in total guarantees, including $110m at signing BBC reports.
