Disappointing start to CAC games for Reggae Girlz

It was a disappointing start to the Caribbean and America Central(CAC) games for the Reggae Girlz after going 5-2 to host El Salvador in their Group B opener at Las Delicias Stadium, El Salvador on Thursday.

With the majority of seniors preparing for the upcoming FiFA Women’s World Cup, the predominantly youthful squad got a baptism of fire by their more seasoned opponents.”

The difference was quickly evident as the Jamaicans conceded two goals in the first seven minutes.

Danya Guitierezz and Victoria Meza netted in the fifth and seventh minutes to give the host the early lead.

Shanique Nelson’s 13th minute strike cut the deficit for the Jamaicans as they began to stage a mini-fight back.

However a Brenda Ceren low drive in the 27th minute restored the El Salvador’s 2-goal advantage before the break.

The second half proved to be just as difficult for the Girlz as Jackeline Velasquez extended the hosts lead five minutes after the resumption. 

Meza returned in the 57th minute for her brace as they added a fifth before the hour mark.

The Girlz, however showed heart amidst pressure by the Central Americans and were rewarded in the 79th minute as Natoya Britana Atkinson added some respectability to scoreline to make it 5-2.

That’s how the game would end as Jamaica sits third in the five team group with El Salvador just ahead in second on three points.

Mexico leads the group also on three however with a superior goal difference.

Jamaica will aim for a rebound when they tackle Puerto Rico in their second fixture on Sunday.
