“Di Good Tings Dem;” Popeye Caution talks about his brand of music

International music artiste Popeye Caution continues to make an impact in entertainment not only with image but also through his tracks. “The Good Tings Dem” hitmaker shared some insight into his brand of music.

How did you get your name?

“It was a birth nickname given to me by my sister, and from then, it just [stuck] with me enuh. She said me did have big eyes as a [little] baby, and it just [stuck] with me,” the deejay joked, adding, “Caution now was my crew’s name, so I put them together “Popeye and Caution Crew,” you Popeye Caution.

How long have you been doing music?

“Honestly, I would say I’ve been doing music for over 12 years but took it seriously for about seven years.”

Describe your music

“I make fun dancehall, relatable to both sides of the market and always have a different sound. I make sure my riddim dem have a world sound than per se, head-on Dancehall. I would say I’m a world sound artiste,” he explained.

Collaborations

Popeye Caution has worked with persons locally and internationally with names such as Ding Dong, Pretty Ricky member Pleasure P and Safaree, among other mainstream acts.

Your most recognizable tracks?

“I would say Ochi because anytime “Ochi” play[s], the dancers know the routine cuz it did go viral with the routine. So it’s just memorable. Anywhere it drop a Jamaica, place ‘tun up’.”

Muse for songs?

“Just happy music keeps people dancing and having fun, I make happy music that’s just me. The world is too sad already, I picture people dancing when I’m in the studio dancing.

Suku from Ward 21, Teetimus, and Izzy Beats are among the noted producers the “Ochi” hitmaker has worked with over the years.

A massive collaboration with Ding Dong and Busta Rhymes is among the upcoming projects this year for the Popeye Caution.
