The PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell is now facing a multi-million dollar lawsuit as lawyers for Cabinet Minister Daryl Vaz have moved to bring him before the Supreme Court regarding contentious remarks he made concerning Minister Vaz while on the political platform.

Minister Vaz is seeking damages for defamation and interest pursuant to the Law Reform or Miscellaneous Provisions Act.

The lawyers representing Minister Vaz are reportedly seeking an injunction restraining Dr. Campbell from further publishing or causing to be published in spoken or written form the words that are said to be defamatory.

Mr. Vaz’s legal team has also asked the Court to order Dr. Campbell to pay exemplary and/or aggravated damages to the Minister. Additionally, they are asking that the PNP General Secretary bear the cost of the suit when the outcome is determined.

Dr. Campbell while addressing a PNP conference mentioned that Minister Vaz committed two crimes.

Minister Vaz’s lawyers noted that in the lawsuit concerning the first crime mentioned by Dr. Campbell, a Police investigation was conducted, and a concluded Court case rendered Dr. Campbell’s attempt to connect the West Portland Member of Parliament to the wrongdoing, as malicious and a hoax.

As it relates to the other crime mentioned by Dr. Campbell, Minister Vaz says there’s evidence that he was not in Jamaica when the act was committed some decades ago.

Dayton Campbell now has two weeks to respond to the lawsuit.
