Virginia police have outlined that Daycare owner, Rebecca Swanner, has been arrested after three one-year-olds were exposed to THC through Goldfish crackers while in her care.

Swanner was also charged with three counts of cruelty and injury to a child when she surrendered to police on April 14.

A report from the Stafford County Sheriff’s office outlined that the parents noticed the children’s abnormal behavior and bloodshot eyes and rushed them to the hospital where a routine drug test was administered.

It was then discovered that all three children were exposed to high levels of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a hallucinogenic substance commonly found in cannabis.

Research also showed that prolonged use of THC results in paranoia, fatigue, bronchitis, and lung infections.

Following the discovery, the police conducted a routine search at the daycare which yielded several bags of THC-laced cookies.

Subsequently, Child Protective Services was called, and the daycare voluntarily gave up its license.

The Sheriff’s Department also outlined that Swanner was released on a $2000 bond.

Meanwhile, a total of 18 cases have been reported of children five and younger eating edibles as of the end of March.

In 2021, however, the total number of reported cases was 52, while in 2020 the total number of reported cases stood at 27.
