Reggae Boyz defender Damion Lowe will be active in the Major League Soccer (MLS) postseason after his Inter Miami team dismissed Orlando City 4-1 to clinch a top-seven Eastern Conference playoff spot.
Lowe, who has been an integral cog in the inter-Miami machine all season played the full 90 minutes as the David Beckham-owned franchise cinched postseason football with a game to play.
Former Argentine international Gonzalo Higuain, who declared his intention to retire from football after the season, was the star of the game with two goals.
The forward scored Inter’s second in minute 38, after Leonardo Campana got them off to a flyer with a first-minute goal to stun their state rival.
Higuain then returned in the second half to complete his brace following a 52nd-minute penalty conversion for Inter Miami’s third goal.
Costa Rican striker Ariel Lassiter then added the fourth goal to put them 4-0 up before the hour mark in the 58th minute.
Despite a small resistance by Orlando which yielded a 71st-minute goal by Ercan Kara, it would only be a consolation statistic after the final whistle.
The win sees Miami move up to fifth in the standings with 48 points, two points ahead of sixth and seventh, which means they cannot finish outside of the playoff bracket even if they lose their final game of the regular season.
They will next play Montreal on Sunday at the DRV PNK Stadium, Fort Lauderdale.
