The Biden Administration has outlined that the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will lift its requirement for travelers to test negative for COVID-19 before entering the US.

The move came after the travel industry based data and science, determined that it is no longer necessary to uphold the testing requirement.

Chief for the Airlines for America Nick Calio also noted that the travel industry officials have been increasingly critical of the requirement in recent weeks and directly urged the Biden administration to end the measure, arguing it was having a chilling effect on an already fragile economy.

As such, this move will go into effect for US-bound air travelers at midnight on Sunday.

The health agency however may decide to reinstate the requirement if a new, concerning variant of the virus emerges.

Furthermore, the administration will continue to recommend testing prior to air travel but believes that coronavirus vaccines and new treatments made it possible to ease the requirement.
