The National Water Commission (NWC) has indicated that water restrictions will be implemented in the Corporate Area over the next 24 hours in an effort to reduce the fall in water levels at the two main catchment facilities.

The commission has however stated that locations below the Ministry of Justice on Constant Spring Road, St Andrew will be receiving water from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. while communities above this location will be served overnight.

Meanwhile, Acting Corporate Public Relations Manager at the NWC, Delano Williams has indicated that there has been a sharp decline in water levels at the two main Corporate area facilities.

To date, the Hermitage Dam is at 63 per cent of capacity while the Mona Reservoir is at 76 per cent. Both reductions are a result of the dry spell that has been affecting sections of the island.

He notes however that while the levels are not at a critical stage, the adjustment is a precautionary measure used to ensure the water supply in the coming months.

Williams also urged citizens to prepare for the disruption in the water supply.

“The forecast tells us that we may not have any significant rainfall until May, June, and last may we found that there was less than 30-year average. So realistically we may be looking at June before some significant rainfall comes,” he explained.
