Reigning 110 meter hurdles Olympic Champion Hansel Parchment and former winner Omar McLeod are set to duel it out on Saturday May 21 at the Birmingham leg of the IAAF Diamond League.
It will be the first time both Jamaicans will be facing each other outdoors since the 2021 Olympic trials which McLeod missed out in the qualifying rounds .
Both Jamaicans have looked impressive so far this season, setting World leads each in their season openers.
McLeod the 2016 Olympic champion, opened with a staggering 13.27 seconds at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational, in Miami to post a then World lead, as he signaled his intentions to dominate the season.
McLeod’s successor Parchment was equally as impressive with his outdoor debut, clocking a scorching 13.20 seconds at the Velocity fest in Kingston on April 23.
This year being a championship season, with the World Championships set for Oregon in July it will provide the first major showdown in the season on the male side things.
Given the rich vein of form both athletes are experiencing, a new worlding time is expected at Saturday’s meet.
The Birmingham leg of the Diamond League, is known for producing credible performance over the years, and will give a great indicator as to possible medal allocations at the championships.
