A mega clash is expected between Reigning English Premier League (EPL) Champions Manchester City and title contender Chelsea when they face off in the EFL Cup third round game at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

City who have been on a gradual return to top form will be aiming to maintain their momentum on the back of two hard-fought wins including their dramatic 2-1 victory over Fulham on Sunday.

They are expected to be the more confident of two going into the game based on current form, especially with the return of top marksman Erling Haaland who netted that winner in his first game back from injury.

Chelsea who was just clipped in 1-0 in their encounter by current league leaders, Arsenal on the weekend will perhaps be the hungrier of the two coming in the fixture as they seek a morale-boosting rebound in Manchester.

Blues manager Graham Potter who has now experienced a second loss in all competitions since taking charge at Chelsea will no doubt be seeking to avoid a strikeout during their as journey today (November 9, 2022).

Both teams will be fielding relatively understrength teams with Chelsea setting play without the defender Reece James and Ben Chilwell who are out injured.

City will also be lacking their usual defensive potency, as England right-back; Kyle Walker remains out following a groin operation, while Portugal defender Joao Cancelo serves a one-match ban after he received a straight red in their win over Fulham.
