Champion girls to lead eventful day 5 for Jamaica at World Champs

Jamaica’s sprint triple threat of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah will lead an eventful evening of semifinals and finals in Day 5 of the World Championships in Eugen, Oregon.

The history making trio are set to line up in three competitive semifinals of the 200 meters tonight, in what could give the clearest indication of who is likely to realistically challenge for podium finishes and in what order.

Semi-final 1 will see 100m Silver Medalist and event favorite   Shericka Jackson line up against the impressive Mujinga Kambundji of Switzerland America’s Jenna Prandini as her main competition.

2015 World Championship Silver Medalist Elaine Thompson Herah is set to face off with reigning 200m World Champion Brittan’s Dinna Asher-Smith in semifinal 2.

The third and final semi will see; five-time 100-meter World Champion Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce set to square off with rising sensation Abby Steiner of US to close out that event.

In the male section Rasheed Dwyer and Yohan Blake be Jamaica’s representative in the half lap event as he attempts to make some noise amongst event favorites Erik Knighton, Noah Lyles and Fred Kerley of the US.  

After capturing silver in the Women’s triple Jump courtesy of super talented Shanieka Rickets, Jamaica will be hunting more success in the jumps this of the vertical variety.

Kimberly Williamson and Lamara Distin will be aiming for top honors in the finals of the Womens High Jump.

More medals will be sought in the field as discus duo of Travis Smickle and Fredrick Dacres will also be representing Jamaica’s podium ambitions in that event.

In the final event of the evening the 400m Hurdles will see Jaheel Hyde represent Jamaica’s medal hopes in the obstacle event as he aims for his first senior level individual medal at the championships.
