US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has declared a Level 3 COVID-19 travel advisory for Jamaica as of January 18, following high levels of COVID-19 cases that are being recorded on the island.
Nevertheless, the destination retains a lower risk designation than most countries across listed by the CDC.
The CDC also noted that as a result of the current situation in Jamaica, travellers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants.
As such, the CDC is urging travellers to be fully vaccinated before traveling to Jamaica and that unvaccinated travellers should avoid nonessential travel to the country.
Furthermore, travellers are being asked to adhere to the protocols that have been outlined by the Ministry of Health and Wellness which includes mask-wearing as well as observing the stipulated social distance of six feet.
Additionally, the Ministry of Tourism is assuring visitors that they can feel confident in the comprehensive Jamaica Cares programme protocols developed in conjunction with authorities across the health and tourism sectors. These protocols were among the first to receive the World Travel & Tourism Council’s Safe Travels recognition that allowed Jamaica to safely reopen in June of 2020, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
The health and safety of every Jamaican and every visitor to the country remain a top priority for the Ministry of Tourism.
The Ministry is optimistic that Jamaica’s Resilient Corridors and robust health and safety protocols will ensure a return to a lower risk designation soon.
Jamaica remains open for business and continues to welcome visitors safely.
