Lurline Viola Smith Henry from the Cayman Islands will be sentenced later this month after admitting to enslaving a 12-year-old Jamaican boy when she appeared in court on Friday, January 7.

Reports are that the 59-year-old woman convinced the boy’s family to allow her to take the child to Cayman where she would send him to school and provide a better life.

However, the façade came to a halt as the child was locked in a closet and treated as a slave.

Further reports also pointed out that the boy was never enrolled in school and after enduring months of abuse, the child ran away and filed a report to authorities which triggered an investigation.

Additionally, the woman’s adult son who was arrested at the time of the incident was discharged by the court last year after the court was unable to prove that he had any knowledge of what his mother was doing.
