Reggae Girlz Captain Khadijah Shaw has committed her immediate future to Women’s Super League (WSL) Manchester City after signing a 2-year contract extension with the former champions on Tuesday.

The club confirmed Shaw’s extension in a statement on their website in the morning.

“Manchester City Football Club is delighted to announce that Bunny Shaw has signed a two-year contract extension.”

The statement continued, “The striker – who joined City on an initial three-year contract in the summer of 2021 from Bordeaux – will now remain at the Academy Stadium until the summer of 2026 after putting pen to paper on a new deal.”

Bunny also jointly shared the news with the club via her social media with a video announcement of the new deal.

The Jamaican has been the standout player for the club this season netting a single-season club record of 31 goals in 30 games, including a brace in the final game to bring her tally to 50 goals in only her second season in Manchester.

Speaking after putting pen to paper on her new deal, Shaw said: “I’m delighted to continue my journey with this amazing group. Everyone made me feel welcome from the first day I came here. I enjoy the way we play and I’m at a stage now where I understand the way we play and I can only get better and grow. I think here at City is the perfect place for me. I put all my effort and time on the pitch and obviously for the position I play and the quality I have around me, I know I’m going to be in positions to score goals.”

The Jamaican also described the English City as home a second home, noting that she feels content in her stay thus far.

“I’ve always said Manchester feels like home away from home too. I enjoy coming into the City ground every day and training with the group, vibing with the girls and I also have family here, so Manchester has felt like home ever since I arrived.”

Shaw also thanked fans for their support and assured her commitment to maintaining the standard.

“I just want to thank our fans for everything, all the love and support they’ve given me since I arrived. I’ll just try my best to continue repaying them on the football pitch.”

Shaw now has an impressive record of having over 50 goals for both club and country as she also holds the all-time national record for most goals across genders yielding 56 from 50 international appearances.

The prolific striker will be looking to improve that tally when the Reggae Girlz kick off their World Cup campaign in July.
