“Indigo season” was in full effect at the National Stadium in Kingston as patrons were left reeling “under the influence” from the thrill and excitement of an unforgettable set by Chris Brown and Friends on Sunday.
The concert, which was the main event of the BZR weekend had a balanced blend of hip-hop and R&B flair accented with Dancehall’s charisma, providing a cauldron of exhilaration that crescendoed into the perfect climax with the show’s main performer.
Gramps Morgan warmed up the stage with a medley of Reggae classics to deliver an “artikal” vibe before the tempo in the venue was raised a few levels following performances by Ding Dong, Teejay and Aidonia.
Sean Kingston then opened the set for the international friends with a solid performance that also saw a cameo by Safaree and R&B singer Davo.
A slight delay in set change mellowed the mood back to a conversational level before erupting into roaring cheers following the grand aerial entrance of the show’s headliner. Chris descended from raptors down on the stage to mark his official return after 10 years.
Breezy checked all the boxes for a captivating show, including showmanship, performance abilities, and crowd interaction, in an engaging set, as the thousands in attendance were hooked on his every note and step as he demonstrated his performance range.
Not only did Brown impress with his skilful footwork and his commanding vocal range, but he also showed off his extensive catalogue as fans were taken on a nostalgic journey through his 13-year career, with patrons reciting songs from his debut album in 2005 to his recent release in 2022.
Whether you are an “OG” Chris Brown fan or a neutral showgoer, you would have been feted to a buffet of the creative and musical arts of the highest calibre, from the lighting to the choreography of supporting dancers to the overall aesthetic of the stage set-up.
In addition to the onstage performance by the artiste, fans were treated to a caleidoscope of visual stimulation by the pyrotechnics during Breezy’s set, which elevated the experience of the show.
Despite the delayed start, fans were kept engaged throughout a high-energy set that lasted roughly 2 hours going into Monday morning as time became an irrelevant factor to the patrons, who remained just as attentive from the moment of his entrance, soaking up as much action as possible.
Brown, who ended his set by showing his love for the local fans and culture, created a new buzz of excitement after he assured fans that the wait for his return to the Jamaican stage would not be as long.
The concert was an excellent cap to an entire weekend of activities that were far from bizarre but more captivating.
